Entoloma virescens (Berk. & M.A.Curtis) Courtec.
Common name: None.
Description: The caps of this beautiful sky-blue species are conical, dry and are commonly 23 cm in diameter. The cap margins are often incurled and prevent the gills from being seen directly. The gills are ascending and at first coloured blue in the same way as the cap. However, as the spores mature, they develop a pinkish tint. The stem is usually 68 cm long and 35 mm thick and is smooth, dry, sky-blue, cylindrical and often shows longitudinal markings which suggest that it has been twisted.
The cuboid spores are 1115 µm, and are pink in mass.
Substratum: Entoloma virescens is always found on soil often among litter or moss. Queensland collections frequently occur on sandy soil and particularly on small banks beside paths, but the species also grows in woodland and forest.
Distribution: Known from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
Notes: Entoloma virescens is also known from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Japan, Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
